The village of Oudeschans has about a hundred inhabitants today. It is therefore surprising that there were many battles in the past. During the Dutch War, Bernard of Galen conquered the village, only to have it reclaimed by Carl von Rabenhaupt, a man from Groningen. The fortress museum in the village commemorates this glorious time.
