Beautiful forest walk with burial mounds and a look over the trees from the forest tower.
Oud Groevenbeek is an estate, located between the Gelderland towns of Ermelo and Putten. It takes its name from a spreng, which rises on the estate. On the 224-hectare estate of the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten there is a country house in Art Nouveau style from 1904, a farm (1870), a gardener's house (1905), a vineyard, its own water tower and various outbuildings. The villa Oud Groevenbeek was designed by architects L.A. van Essen and J. van Zeggeren from Harderwijk.
The water tower was built in 1912 on an artificial hill. It was decommissioned in 1950 and restored in 1994. The cellars of the tower have housed different species of bats since 1998.
The gardens of the mansion merge into forests where often beech, and sometimes oaks, pines, and larches predominate. There are also coppice plots and agricultural land. In terms of fauna, one can find deer, wild boars, foxes, badgers, green woodpecker, black woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker and the kingfisher.
On Oud Groevenbeek there is a network of paths with which you can walk past the country house, the Volenbeek, the sprengkop and the burial mounds on the Groevenbeek heath. The Groevenbeekpad has facilities for the visually impaired and is also accessible for people in wheelchairs. (source: Wikipedia)
Nieuw Groevenbeek is an estate in the Dutch municipality of Ermelo. It is located between Putten and Ermelo on the east side of the main road between the two villages. The estate is located in the middle of a mixed forest and includes a farm, a thatched sheepfold and sixteen partially wooden houses. Since the end of 2007, the whole of Groevenbeek has been a protected village. On and near the site are some burial mounds from prehistoric times.
The name of the estate first appears in a deed from 1556 (as "Grobbenbeeck"), in which the then king gave the kelnarij van Putten permission to replace the existing water mill with a new one. (source: Wikipedia)
Landgoed Schovenhorst is an estate near the Dutch town of Putten on the Veluwe, founded in 1848. The estate has been experimenting with all kinds of tree seeds for a long time. Nowadays, recreational and educational activities are central to the theme of nature-culture. (source: Wikipedia)
Landgoed Schovenhorst has a special experience to offer: a forest on top of the Bostoren! Not only this forest is special. The road to it is also an adventure in itself.
The Bostoren is a climb of 235 steps. The view at the top is definitely worth it. With the forest below you look out over Amersfoort, the Veluwe and the windmills in the polder. There is also plenty to do in the tower itself; a wall with nest boxes and a chilling climbing net. Once at the top of this architectural masterpiece you will be rewarded with a beautiful view. Climb the 40 meter high Forest Tower and discover it with your own eyes!
