On foot from Antwerp to Veenendaal
Leg 7: Breda - Oosterhout

The route starts in the heart of the Barony City at the Grote Kerk and then runs over the Markt. As a hiker on the Gilbert van Schoonbekepad you will of course also take a look at the Stadserf at the statue of the Peat skipper, who played such an important role in the reconquest of the city from the Spaniards in the Eighty Years' War. But there are more unexpectedly beautiful places in the city, such as De Merkxtuin and the Begijnhof. Over the castle square and past the stately Baroniemonument we leave the city center. Then Breda's industrial past also comes into the picture. Take a look inside the hall of the office building of De Drie Hoefijzers. Once we have walked past the factory of confectionery De Faam, we look for the outskirts of Breda and we arrive in the Lage Vuchtpolder. After an hour, the landscape changes completely. The Vrachelse Heide is still a military training ground, but accessible to hikers. The remnants of drifting sand and heath remind you of the Veluwe. A little later you are already in Oosterhout. In the area of De Slotjes it is good to stay with all those beautiful old trees and beautiful houses. The route ends at De Heuvel, one of the most beautiful squares in North Brabant.

Fastest connection by public transport between start and end point: On foot from De Heuvel to Oosterhout Bus Station, from there by bus 325, 326 or 327 to Breda Station.
