Groninger Borgenpad / vanished Luingaborg Bierum

The walk is worth it just for the Sebastiaankirche in Bierum and the small park with the charming Freulelaantje. The church with its impressive buttress is located at the excavated castle grounds of the vanished Luingaburg. There is a large model of the castle, allowing you to see what the castle looked like. The castle grounds are now a park where you can wonderfully linger and take a walk. One of the prettiest Wierde villages in perhaps all of Holland is Spijk. It has a moat around the Andreaskirche. Those who know the song 't Torentje from Spiek by Ede Staal but have never been to Spijk... this walk makes up for it. But first, you will pass through the Spiekster Forest and past the farm de Börgstee. There once stood a castle here too. Just like in the next village, Losdorp. Once stood the Fraeilemaburg there. Lady of the Castle Johanna Hillebrandts died in 1637 with her 7 children from the plague. She is buried in the church of Losdorp. This walk is one of the hikes along the vanished castles.
