Ford Everdingen from Hoornaar

A recording of 13 July 2020 from Hoornaar singing through the Vijfherenlanden where many remains of the defensive line can still be seen.

Fort Everdingen is a fort that consists of a natural area of 12 hectares with a number of buildings of military-historical significance. The fort was built in the 19th century as part of the New Dutch Water Line and is located on the border between the Dutch municipalities of Vijfheerenlanden and Culemborg. It is part of the New Dutch Water Line and, together with Fort Honswijk, forms the Lek access. The fort is named after the neighboring village of Everdongen. In 2015 it came into the hands of beer brewery Duits&Lauret.  http://forteverdingen.com/

Fort Everdingen then

Fort Everdingen with its large tower fort was built between 1841 and 1849. Together with Fort Honswijk, Fort Everdingen took care of the closure of the access to the Lek. This fort also took care of the defense of the three inundation locks and the inundation canal near the fort. A large lock bear was built in the Lekdijk in front of the fort: a dam containing a lock for inletting in the river water for inundation. The water management system is well preserved here.
