Polaria

Description

In a very special building representing ice floes pushed ashore by the rough Arctic sea, you will find our Arctic Experience Center "Polaria". It is only a 5-minute walk from the city center. At "Polaria", you will find a panoramic cinema, several aquariums, informative exhibitions about the polar regions, and a souvenir shop.

Our café takes care of your culinary needs. "Polaria" was built in 1997 at the initiative of the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment to impart knowledge about the Arctic flora and fauna, the Arctic climate, and the impact of the environment on them to tourists and other visitors. In the cinema, you can watch the Ivo Caprino film "Svalbard - an Arctic Wilderness" and the Ole C. Salomonsen film "Northern Lights in Arctic Norway". A small bird, the Red-throated Diver, takes you on a journey along the west coast of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago. During the helicopter flight, you will experience the unique wildlife and plant life of this island. The breathtaking flight will take you over glaciers and mountains, and introduce you to the king of the Arctic - the polar bear. The main attraction in the aquarium is the bearded seals. They are a purely Arctic species of seal and are, of course, very popular with young and old alike. The highlight is the walk through the glass tunnel under the aquarium, from where you can observe the seals, the training, and the feeding of the animals. In various aquariums, you can also admire the most famous fish species of the Barents Sea. Our exhibitions are constantly evolving. We strive to keep the exhibits up to date with the latest science and technology. You can find gifts and souvenirs in the entrance area. We have a rich selection of regional handicrafts, books, toys, and other travel souvenirs that are, of course, related to our experience center, ready for you.

Welcome to Polaria!
