The origins of Vila Marim date back at least to the Castro culture before the Roman conquest in the 2nd century BC. The place was officially documented for the first time in the 12th century, as mentioned in the later royal registers of the year 1258.
King D. Sancho visited the place during a passing trip and had houses and vineyards removed that the residents had constructed at the entrance of the village, thereby altering the village accesses and the water flow towards Mesão Frio.
