Le origini di Vila Marim risalgono almeno alla cultura Castro prima della conquista romana nel II secolo a.C. Il luogo fu documentato ufficialmente per la prima volta nel XII secolo, come si menziona nei successivi registri reali dell'anno 1258.
Il re D. Sancho visitò il luogo durante un viaggio e fece rimuovere case e vigneti, che gli abitanti avevano costruito all'ingresso del villaggio, modificando gli accessi al paese e il corso d'acqua verso Mesão Frio.
