Until the beginning of this century the hills in this region were covered with pine trees. The majority of these are cut for use in the paper industry. After that they largely switched to planting eucalyptus, which is cut back after 10 years, also for processing into paper. The advantage is that the eucalyptus grows automatically again, where the pine trees have to be replanted after the cutting. The disadvantage of the eucalyptus is that it is a real water waste, not really a good choice for a region that is increasingly drying out, and the tree is a real fire hazard.
