The popular devotion to this place dates back to a chapel , under the invocation of Saint Stephen , built in 1361.
In the 16th century the chapel was in danger of falling into disrepair and was demolished (1568). At the initiative of the Bishop of Lamego , construction of a new chapel was begun. A statue of the Virgin and Child was placed in the new chapel.
Over time, devotion to Stephen diminished and was replaced by devotion to the Virgin. The devotion of those who turned to her for relief from illness led to the devotion to Our Lady of the Remedies .
The current sanctuary was built in 1750 and not completed until 1905 .
The church's facade shows traces of the Baroque and Rococo styles . The facade is flanked by bell towers . Granite stone was used for the construction.
Inside, the main altar with the image of Our Lady of Remedies carved in wood and three stained glass windows with the images of Our Lady of the Conception, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Annunciation stand out. The two side altars are dedicated to the parents of the Virgin (Saint Joachim and Saint Anne).
On one of the walls of the sanctuary there are tile panels with scenes from the life of the Virgin .
The traditional festivities take place every year from September 6 to 8.
