Largo is known to the locals as “Campo da Feira” .
Here, every Saturday, the great market was held , which was said to be one of the most important weekly events in the kingdom, and which occupied several squares with poultry, cereals, fruit, tableware, glass, a variety of fabrics made of wool, silk, linen, cotton, iron foundry and the exhibition and sale of livestock took place here. In the mid-19th century, Campo da Feira became a privileged place of commerce. In 1854, it was decided that the Pig Market and the Cattle Market would remain permanently in this location.
The current garden has a fountain at the north top, which incorporates the rotunda. It is a recent work, inaugurated in the late 1990s.
The beautiful central garden of pens and flowers, which extends to the church, changes colour through the seasons, always with seasonal flowers.
