Statue Dona Teresa - Ponte de Lima

Ponte de Lima received its first charter on March 4, 1125, through the efforts of Dona Teresa, the mother of Afonso Henriques . Ponte de Lima thus owes to her one of the most important episodes in its history.

Dona Teresa was Countess of the Condado Portucalense (Portugal's name before independence), wife of Henry and mother of Afonso Henriques (or Afonso I), the first king of Portugal. She was born in 1080 and died in 1130. It was Teresa who granted the city of Ponte a charter on 4 March 1125, thus creating Ponte de Lima.

This statue of honor is located at the main entrance to the city, at the end (or beginning) of Avenida António Feijó , between the Paço do Marquês de Ponte de Lima and the City Hall . It is a large bronze statue that does not go unnoticed. It shows Dona Teresa with the charter.
