The Monument of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands on top of Guadalupe Hill .
It contains an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in memory of the solemn consecration of the city and the Archdiocese of Braga to the Divine Heart of Christ on May 16, 1886, at the time of Bishop António José de Freitas Honorato.
It is the highest point of the city of Braga .
In the 19th century the place was known as Cova da Moura or Monte da Buraquinha.
The monument was erected at the initiative of Monsignor Joaquim Fernandes Lopes and the opening took place on December 8, 1901, the feast day of the Immaculate Conception.
It is a simple, two-storey elliptical building with few windows with broken arches, topped by a panoramic roof terrace served by an external staircase.
