It owes its name to Saint Victor of Braga (to whom the chapel of Saint Victor the Elder in the same parish is also dedicated).
The church was built on the remains of an earlier church in 1686, according to one of the tombstones on the facade. The church was consecrated on March 19, 1698 by Archbishop João de Sousa (1696-1703).
The temple has a sober "floor style". The coat of arms of D. Luís de Sousa is in the center of the triangular pediment of the façade . On the façade there are also statues of two archbishops in niches. Since there is no inscription about who is depicted, scholars think that they may be Saint Benedict and Saint Anthony or two images of Saint Gerard.
The interior of the church is richly decorated with tiles attributed to the Spanish artist Gabriel del Barco y Minusca.
