The beautiful gardens of Solar de Mateus and Vila Real

The famous rosé wine Mateus Rosé , known worldwide since the 20th century, bears on its label an image of the facade of the Solar de Mateus.

The elegant reflection of the palace in the pond in front of it is one of the most photographed scenes in northern Portugal and makes the Casa de Mateus , also known as the Palácio de Mateus or Solar de Mateus, well worth a visit.

After visiting the palace, the chapel and the gardens, one of the finest examples of formal garden art in Portugal, we will visit Vila Real.

The name literally means “Royal Village” which in the 16th–18th centuries was known as the “city of nobles ”, with numerous noble houses often bearing the coat of arms above the door. The main attraction is the cathedral.
