Wat Muang Chum is a 400 year old temple believed to have been built in the Ayutthaya era and previously named "Wat Kradang Nga temple". It was built while the war with Burma was still ongoing and while Krung Sri Ayuthaya city fell for the second time. A lot of sandstone Buddha heads were found in situ and the Luang Pho Dam Buddha statue at the back of the temple stands testimony to the ruins still buried on the north side of the temple to the events then. Later, when peace and independence came again, the people resettled the area nearby and renamed it Wat Muang Chum Temple. The name "Muang Chum" derived from the fact that the Bang Rachan villagers held meetings and gatherings ("Prachum" means meeting in Thai) under mango trees ("Mamuang" means mango in Thai) and hence the temple was named Wat Muang Chum.
