Sra Phleng is an artificial body of water and a common element of the Khmer architectural style. The large pond is located to the east of Prasat Hin Phanom Wan. The pond is constructed in a rectangular plan, approximately 260 by 450 metres by excavation and embanked. The pond dates back to the 11 - 12th centuries CE and was probably a reservoir for irrigation constructed following religious beliefs. Historians are still divided on the meaning and functions of these reservoirs.
