Iğdır ; Kurdish: Îdir, also Reşqelas; Azerbaijani: İğdır; Armenian: Իգդիր, romanized: Igdir, also Ցոլակերտ Tsolakert), is the capital of Iğdır Province in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. The highest mountain in Turkey, Ağrı Dağı or Mount Ararat, is partly in Iğdır province.
The city and province are named after a western Turkish clan called Iğdır that belonged to a branch of the Oghuz Turks. They spread throughout Anatolia and there are several towns and villages named Iğdır in Eskişehir Province and other parts of Turkey today. The city in Armenian is called Իգդիր, Igdir, also Ցոլակերտ, Tsolakert, after an ancient settlement nearby. The city is most commonly called Îdir in Kurdish, however the city is also called Reşqelas in Kurdish, which is of Kurdish etymology.
