Nipomo is a census-designated place in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 12,626 at the 2000 census, and grew to 16,714 for the 2010 census.
The name is a transliteration of the Obispeño phrase nipumuʔ, meaning "Place of the big house" or "Village". Nipumuʔ was the name of a Chumash tribal site located in the present-day area of Nipomo.
