The village of Burgh is located just behind the western dunes of the island of Schouwen. For many years it has been connected to Haamstede, located north of it, into one built-up area; that is why the municipality considers the villages as one core: Burgh-Haamstede. However, the inhabitants of the two villages feel this differently.
Burgh was created because of a ring rampart that was erected against the Normans at the end of the ninth century.
