The coast of Güímar is known for its fishing traditions and there have historically been fishing communities in the area. These fishing communities often built houses and structures along the coastline to be close to their working area.
These fishermen have taken advantage of the diverse and unique resources this environment provides, engaging in practices such as fishing or shellfish harvesting. An ancient method used was called embabascado and consisted of poisoning the water in the pools with cardón milk or bitter tabaiba, to ensure the stunning of the fish.
The original cave houses, intended for fishing, have been expanded over time for leisure activities with a superstructure. Electricity, drinking water and a road with street lighting were provided. However, this happened illegally and legal proceedings have been initiated, although some of the facts may already have expired . The question is therefore whether the situation as it stands now (2024) will continue to exist.
