A recently opened hotel in Amsterdam has come up with a novel way of attracting new customers and making a name for itself; the Arcade Hotel is targeting video game players by providing in-room game consoles for them to play on and a game rental service for hotel guests.

A variety of Consoles

Daniel Salmanovich, the owner of the Arcade Hotel, is hoping that his innovative approach will be just what many gamers are looking for. He realised that many travellers who enjoy playing video games are unhappy about having to leave their own consoles at home, so he is providing a way they can enjoy game-playing from the comfort of their hotel rooms. Guests staying at the Arcade Hotel, which is aptly named because it reminds us of gaming arcades, gives its guests a variety of consoles that they can choose from. Ataris, Gameboy and Game Cube, Super Nintendo, PlayStations, N64s and Xboxs are all available. The gaming menu is available on the main page of the hotel’s website.

The Arcade Hotel used to be known as the Aalborg Hotel and is located opposite the Sarphatipark public park in the De Pijp district of Amsterdam. This park is a very good one for strolling around in and enjoying the features you’d expect in a park, so it is handy to have so close to the Arcade Hotel, if you like parks. De Pijp, by the way if translated means “The Pipe,” and it is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. De Pijp is a district that is known for being a real melting pot of cultures and nationalities. Other attractions of De Pijp, besides its park and cosmopolitan community are the Albert Cuyp market, which has been described as the busiest outdoor market in Europe. It has over 300 stalls and Saturday is the main day. The Heineken Museum is also in De Pijp and tours of this museum and brewery are known as the “Heineken experience.” All of this is right on your doorstep, so to speak, if you are staying at the Arcade Hotel.

The Arcade Hotel has the Dutch theme of “gezelligheid,” which means friendliness and togetherness. The hotel is still being worked on and eventually is planning on having 36 bedrooms with rooms ranging from one-bed to four-beds available. Amongst other services the Arcade Hotel provides, are bike rentals and a comic library. Bicycles are one of the most popular ways of getting around in Amsterdam so being able to rent one from the hotel you are staying at is an added bonus. Whether you are a gamer or not, the Arcade Hotel makes a great base to stay at when you are visiting Amsterdam the capital of the Netherlands.
