"Suppose you want to copy an existing route, which is drawn on paper, to RouteYou. How would you do that?"
This is a question that is regularly asked by our users. In response, we gladly suggest the following procedure:
1. Navigate to the Routeplanner.
2. Under Routing, select Shortest - OSM. When mapping out the route, the shortest route is drawn between the successive points that you click.
In case you choose another routing option, such as Hiking - nicest or Recreational cycling - nicest, you will see that te planner now and then makes a detour. This is because every routing option is linked to certain conditions (far an overview click here). If you want to record an specific trajectory, these detours can be annoying.
3. If you wish to include parts of a route that are not known by the map or where there is no path, it is best to switch to the Manual routing option. In that case you can place points and draw (straight) lines whitout taking into account the underlying map information.
