El Palacio de Herberstein se encuentra en Estiria, Austria.[1] Se asienta sobre una roca, en la barranca de Feistritz, y por lo tanto no es de acceso fácil. Al no ser visible desde fuera del barranco, estuvo naturalmente protegido contra los atacantes.
Las partes más antiguas de edificio están cerca de un zoológico que proviene del siglo XII. El primer castillo pequeño llamado 'Herwigstein' llegó a ser un feudo de la familia Stubenberg. Otto von Hartenberg pudo liberar el castillo por un pago a los Stubenbergs y es considerado como el antepasado del palacio de Herberstein desde entonces.
