De Lacy es el apellido de una antigua familia de la nobleza normanda originaria de Lassy . El primero de quien se tiene noticia fue Hugh de Lacy , que dejó Normandía para invadir Inglaterra con Guillermo el Conquistador. Walter e Ilbert de Lacy lucharon en la batalla de Hastings. La familia desempeñó un papel importante en la conquista normanda de Inglaterra e Irlanda. Hasta 1399, los De Lacy se mantuvieron en el "gran Norte", Señorío de Bowland, antes de que éste pasara por matrimonio al Condado, más tarde Ducado, de Lancaster.
