El castillo de Laeken está rodeado por un parque de 120 ha y fue construido en 1782. La residencia se llamaba entonces Schoonenberg. Bajo Napoleón, Schoonenberg se convirtió en un cuartel militar e incluso en una prisión. El castillo ha sido reformado varias veces y, tras las revueltas contra Guillermo I, pasó a ser propiedad del estado belga, que lo convirtió en la residencia de Leopoldo I. Todos nuestros reyes, excepto Alberto II, han tenido su residencia allí. El Palacio Real de Bruselas, que está a 7 km, sirve como lugar de trabajo.
