El Fuerte Fléron fue construido, al igual que los otros once fuertes alrededor de Lieja, a partir de 1888. Está ubicado en la localidad belga de Fléron, al oeste de la ciudad de Lieja. Los fuertes fueron construidos tras el desarrollo de nuevos obuses que penetraban más profundamente en el suelo antes de explotar. Esto hizo que el uso de hormigón y blindaje fuera necesario. Los fuertes fueron diseñados en hormigón simple y no armado. Este hormigón podía resistir los impactos de morteros de calibre de 210 mm y 220 mm, que en aquel entonces eran el arma más grande. Para limitar la cantidad de artillería en las baterías de flanco, se eligió una forma sencilla: un triángulo. En el fuerte se luchó durante la Primera y la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
