El ayuntamiento de Herzele también es conocido como Schepenhuis.
Se desconoce la fecha exacta de construcción del Schepenhuis actual, pero la primera mención oficial data de 1571 , donde se le menciona como « Herberghe Sinte Martin staende ande halle ende marckt van herseele». Esto sugiere que el edificio podría ser incluso más antiguo.
Durante el siglo XVIII , al desaparecer la función de "schepen", el edificio sufrió importantes reformas, incluyendo la construcción de una nueva torre. En 1778 fue vendido al conde de Lichtervelde, entonces señor de Herzele. Desde entonces, el edificio ha servido alternativamente como posada y ayuntamiento.
En los últimos años (2025), se ha planificado renovar el Schepenhuis y darle un nuevo propósito . El ayuntamiento de Herzele ha vendido el edificio a un socio privado con la intención de albergar un negocio de restauración y una tienda. El objetivo es transformar el Schepenhuis en el corazón del municipio.
