El beguinaje de Sint-Alexius es un beguinaje en plaza que data de 1288. Las 61 viviendas, agrupadas alrededor de una plaza de césped con una iglesita, forman un oasis de tranquilidad en el corazón de la ciudad. Al igual que el Belfort, el beguinaje también fue clasificado como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1999.
Museo del Beguinaje
Para mantener viva la memoria de las beguinas, se ha acondicionado una pequeña vivienda (n.º 11 - H. Bonifacio) como vivienda de beguina. En 1975 falleció la última beguina, la Gran Dama Ernestina De Bruyne. Su antigua vivienda (n.º 25 - H. Begga) se ha acondicionado como la segunda parte del museo del beguinaje.
Museo de Etnografía
El beguinaje también alberga un Museo de Etnografía. Distribuidos en tres plantas y numerosas habitaciones, aquí conocemos la vida doméstica, laboral y de ocio de generaciones anteriores.
