La Ciudadela de Namur se encuentra en una colina de 100 metros de altura sobre la ciudad belga de Namur. Está situada en un lugar estratégico donde el río Sambre desemboca en el Mosa. Es una de las mayores fortificaciones de Europa y está conectada con el barrio namurense de Jambes a través del Puente de Jambes. Probablemente, esta colina ya estaba habitada hace ocho mil años. Los romanos también utilizaron este lugar como fortaleza. Las primeras murallas de piedra datan de la alta Edad Media. Desde el siglo X, el complejo se convierte en la sede principal de los condes de Namur. Hasta 1429, un total de veintitrés condes se sucederán. En el año 1421, Felipe el Bueno compra el derecho de sucesión y en 1429, Namur se incorpora al ducado de Borgoña.
