Lommel cuenta con mucha belleza natural, como por ejemplo hermosas dunas, las canteras con la arena blanca más fina de Europa, la zona natural De Watering, el Sáhara de Lommel, con
numerosos bosques y extensiones de brezos. Lommel es la tercera ciudad comercial de Limburgo, con un animado centro comercial y el centro comercial De Singel.
El municipio de Lommel se encuentra en la divisoria de aguas de las cuencas de los ríos Escalda y Mosa, y dentro de estas cuencas de Nete y, respectivamente, Dommel.
Lommel cuenta con una extensa red de rutas en bicicleta y varios senderos. Así, puedes disfrutar de la naturaleza y de especies de aves y plantas protegidas en las zonas naturales de Pijnven, Sáhara de Lommel o De Watering.
