Wortegem es una aldea en la provincia belga de Flandes Oriental y una comuna de Wortegem-Petegem. En Wortegem se encuentra el ayuntamiento de la comuna fusionada. De una copia del siglo XI de un documento de 964 data la denominación Wrattingem. Se trata de la combinación de un nombre personal y el sufijo -heim. La aldea formaba parte de la kawlina de Oudenaarde y pertenecía a la señoría de Petegem. En el siglo XVII, Wortegem fue asignada como una señoría aparte por el Conde de Flandes y pasó a la familia de Bossière; en 1669 pasó a la familia Van den Bossche y en 1686 a la familia van Spiere, barones de Moregem. A través de matrimonio, ambas señorías fueron a la familia de Dennetières. En 1767, la señoría pasó a Emmanuel Charles van Hoobrouck.
