En el Schoonselhof, el cementerio de Amberes conocido como el Père-Lachaise local (ver París), se colocó un mausoleo de Hendrik Conscience. Hendrik Conscience falleció en 1883. Ese año, también se "permitió" el neerlandés en la educación secundaria baja de Flandes. Algo por lo que Hendrik Conscience había luchado arduamente. Hasta entonces, se utilizaba el francés.
Hendrik Conscience también fue profesor de neerlandés para los hijos (príncipes) de Leopoldo I.
