La Abadía de Kortenberg se encontraba en la antigua Curtenbergh, ahora Eikelenberg. Según la tradición, en la montaña se fundó una ermita por una dama piadosa, llamada Duva. Pronto reunió a su alrededor un círculo de clérigos. Vivían en pequeñas casas agrupadas alrededor de una iglesia. Un documento de 1095 atestigua la donación del altar por Walcher, obispo de Cambrai. El conde Godfried I de Lovaina y treinta nobles prominentes le ofrecieron su apoyo. Las hermanas se pusieron bajo la protección de Nuestra Señora y San Amando.
