L'Abbazia di Kortenberg si trovava sull'antica Curtenbergh, ora Eikelenberg. Secondo la tradizione, sulla montagna fu fondata una cella da una donna devota, chiamata Duva. Ben presto raccolse attorno a sé un gruppo di ecclesiastici. Vivevano in piccole casette raggruppate attorno a una chiesa. Un documento del 1095 attesta la donazione dell'altare da parte di Walcher, vescovo di Cambrai. Il conte Godfried I di Leuven e trenta nobili di spicco offrirono il loro sostegno. Le sorelle si posero sotto la protezione di Nostra Signora e di Sant'Amandus.
