El Cementerio de Hooge Crater se inició en octubre de 1917, cuando Hooge cayó en manos aliadas al comienzo de la Tercera Batalla de Ypres. Después del armisticio, el cementerio se amplió con unas 5800 tumbas de los campos de batalla y pequeños cementerios cercanos. Es notable que la Piedra de Recuerdo, al frente del cementerio, está colocada en una profundidad circular: un símbolo de los muchos cráteres que se han formado aquí en los alrededores.
