El área natural tiene 29 ha de superficie y se encuentra en el territorio de la ciudad de Oudenaarde y el municipio de Maarkedal. El bosque está ubicado en el Koppenberg, una colina de 78 metros de altura que se eleva de la llanura del Escalda. La reserva es gestionada por el servicio público flamenco Agenschap voor Natuur en Bos. La reserva está reconocida como un área Natura 2000 europea y forma parte de la Red Ecológica Flamenca. Dentro de los objetivos de conservación de la naturaleza europea, a largo plazo se crearán 350 hectáreas adicionales de bosque en las Ardenas flamencas; el Kluisbos se conectará con el Koppenbergbos a través de Feelbos, Beiaardbos, Fonteinbos e Ingelbos, Hotond-Scherpenberg, Kuitholbos y Spijkerbos.
