El desafortunado conde Egmont de hace un momento tuvo aquí su palacio urbano. Desde el siglo XVIII hasta principios del XX estuvo en manos de la familia Arenberg. Este linaje noble, con raíces en la Eifel alemana, estuvo del lado equivocado de la historia tras la Primera Guerra Mundial. Para borrar su memoria, el palacio, tras su partida, recibió el nombre del propietario anterior.
Aunque cada generación añadió su propio estilo y espacios, sigue siendo un bonito ejemplo de cómo era un palacio urbano noble. La especial escalera de honor de mármol es una copia de un ejemplar que se perdió en Versalles. Conduce a hermosos salones de recepción recientemente renovados, con magníficos techos de yeso. El Palacio Egmont es ahora utilizado por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y para eventos diplomáticos.
