El primer castillo de Ter Rijst fue destruido en 1169 por el conde de Hainaut. El segundo castillo fue demolido en 1480 por un tal Carlos van der Noot, quien construyó una auténtica fortaleza. Esa fortaleza fue en gran parte demolida en 1868 por el burgrave Théodore de Nieulant de Pottelsberghe, quien le dio al castillo su forma actual. El castillo de estilo clasicista está acondicionado como B&B y restaurante. El parque de 100 hectáreas respira historia y se jacta de albergar numerosos árboles autóctonos, hermosas flores raras, una variada fauna y vistas fenomenales. Aquí puedes pasear en toda tranquilidad. En primavera, puedes disfrutar plenamente de la belleza de las flores en el parque.
