La Diócesis de Amberes es una de las ocho diócesis belgas. Fue fundada en 1559 con la bula Super universas por el Papa Pablo IV, que reorganizó las diócesis en los Países Bajos. Pero fue en 1570 cuando el primer obispo de Amberes ocupó su sede. La diócesis fue abolida nuevamente tras la Revolución Francesa en 1801 con el Concordato entre Napoleón y el Papa Pío VII. Posteriormente, se unió a la Arquidiócesis de Malinas.
