El Fuerte 1 es un antiguo fortín. Estaba situado en Wijnegem y formaba parte del cinturón de Brialmont. Fue construido en 1859 y exactamente cien años después, en 1959, fue dinamitado para rectificar la carretera de Turnhout, que hasta entonces rodeaba el fuerte. Desde 1993, en la mitad sur de la explanada del fuerte se encuentra el Centro Comercial Wijnegem. La parte norte ha sido reasignada como área forestal.
