El abedul blando (Betula pubescens) pertenece a la familia de los abedules. El más común es el abedul rugoso. En la base, la corteza es blanca. La corteza tiene menos surcos que en el abedul rugoso. Las hojas miden de tres a seis centímetros de largo, son ovaladas a romboidales, puntiagudas y tienen el revés suave y peludo. La madera es blanda y se pudre fácilmente. A veces, la madera de un abedul muerto ya está podrida y la corteza aún está presente.
El jugo del abedul se utilizaba como purificador de sangre y medio para el crecimiento del cabello. Contiene muchos azúcares. Al añadir miel, se puede hacer vino de abedul. A veces se hace té de las hojas. Este tiene un efecto diurético y también ayudaría contra los pies sudorosos.
