La Heide del Norte forma, desde Amberes, la puerta a un extenso paisaje de brezo. El parque fronterizo 'Zoom-Kalmthoutse Heide' es una área natural internacional con una superficie de 37 km². El punto central es la Heide de Kalmthout. La zona tomó su forma actual al final de la última edad de hielo. Entonces, los vientos del oeste llevaron grandes cantidades de arena, lo que dio lugar a la formación de dunas.
