A través de décadas de extracción de grava, se formaron varios grandes y profundos estanques. Como reutilización del área, se trazó el mapa de la naturaleza y la seguridad.
Desde mediados de 2008 hasta agosto de 2009, se excavó toda el área de Negenoord-Kerkeweerd con el objetivo de optimizar la seguridad y la naturaleza en la zona. De este modo, se trasladó el dique de verano y se construyó una estructura de entrada y salida.
Gracias a estas obras de la empresa nv De Scheepvaart, el área ha tenido oportunidades óptimas para volver a desarrollarse. En 2013, el Comité de Reestructuración construyó los caminos y la infraestructura en la zona.
