Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, con la industrialización y la intensificación de la agricultura, la siega y el heno manual de los prados en el valle de Demer se volvieron demasiado difíciles. Los prados se espesaron y, al igual que en muchos valles, para aún obtener algo, se plantaron con álamos canadienses. Así, las ricas flores de los matorrales y praderas cambiaron rápidamente en ortigas y moras.
