El Bosbeek tiene 24 km de largo y supera una altitud de unos 50 m. Nace en el territorio de As y fluye hacia el Mosa a través de Louwel, Opoeteren, Maaseik y Aldeneik. En el valle del Bosbeek hay varias áreas naturales protegidas, especialmente en las partes superiores (cerca de As, Opglabbeek y Neeroeteren). Son bosques pantanosos e impenetrables, que han sobrevivido a la deforestación y la agricultura. En varios lugares de la parte alta del Bosbeek, se puede cruzar el valle a través de caminos cerrados al tráfico vehicular.
