El antiguo bosque de Grotenhout es un relicario del bosque dominal con un imponente complejo de caminos que sirvió como coto de caza para los duques de Brabante, y más tarde para los señores de Turnhout. Este dominio forestal - una gran área boscosa continua en una zona agrícola abierta intacta - es el único complejo de bosque antiguo de esta magnitud en los Kempen que ha permanecido presente desde al menos la Edad Media. En el bosque se encuentran viejas vegetaciones vulnerables con plantas raras vinculadas a un ambiente forestal.
