Ancien Grotenhoutbos est un vestige de la forêt domaniale avec un imposant complexe de drèves qui servait de zone de chasse pour les ducs de Brabant, puis pour les seigneurs de Turnhout. Ce domaine forestier - une grande zone boisée continue dans une plaine agricole intacte - est le seul vieux complexe forestier de cette taille dans les Kempen qui est resté présent depuis au moins le Moyen Âge. Dans la forêt, on trouve des végétations anciennes vulnérables avec des plantes rares liées à un environnement forestier.
