A lo largo de este camino puedes notar algunos pinos donde el cerezo americano florece exuberantemente. Se puede reconocer por sus hojas puntiagudas y coriáceas y por las espigas de flores blancas o racimos de bayas negras. Una rama o hoja recién cortada huele a mazapán, ¡pero no debes probarlo! El cerezo americano fue introducido de América a partir de 1920 y plantado en muchos bosques de Kempen debido a su supuesta alta calidad de madera y sus propiedades de mejora del suelo. Sin embargo, en el contexto forestal, esta especie se presenta principalmente en forma arbustiva y raramente crece hasta convertirse en un árbol, lo que limita mucho el uso comercial de la madera. Además, esta especie se comporta como una plaga en muchos bosques, como se puede ver aquí en todas partes, lo que le ha valido el apodo de 'plaga forestal'.
