Quien dice calentamiento, dice hielo derritiéndose. Los glaciares son el testigo más crudo de esto. En dos años (2022 y 2023) han perdido en los Alpes el 10 por ciento de su volumen. Se espera que desaparezcan por completo para finales de siglo, en el peor de los escenarios climáticos.
El agua derretida termina en el mar, donde provoca el aumento del nivel del mar. Este ahora aumenta en promedio a nivel mundial 4,4 mm por año. En la costa belga, el agua en Oostende sube 6 mm por año.
Para un impacto drástico a largo plazo, debemos mirar a Groenlandia y la Antártida.
Si se derritiera todo su hielo, el nivel del mar global aumentaría en 67 metros.
